Conditions We Treat
Spinal Pain
Spinal pain is a common condition affecting people of all ages. While it is rarely a serious problem, spinal pain often causes high levels of pain and loss of function.
Lower back pain is the most common type of spinal pain, affecting up to 80% of people during their lifetime.
If you have lower back pain, you are not alone. Nearly everyone at some point has back pain that interferes with work, routine daily activities, or recreation.
Most causes of back pain are the result of irritation or poor function of the bones, joints, ligaments or muscles in your back
Diagnosing the source and cause of your low back pain is the key to implementing an effective care plan. Chiropractors are highly trained in the diagnosis and treatment of low-back pain.
Neck pain is a common condition that can result from trauma, such as whiplash sustained in a car accident, or overload syndromes caused by repetitive activity or postural issues.
Mid-back or thoracic pain can be concerning, and needs to be differentiated from chest pain of a visceral origin. Research suggests that spinal manipulation is the treatment of choice for mechanical mid-back pain.
Headaches
Headaches come in many different guises, so if you are suffering from headache accurate diagnosis is the key to ensure that the correct interventions are utilised. Headaches are classified in to two subsets:
Primary headaches are those that have no other identified cause. The most common types of primary headache are tension type headaches and migraines.
Secondary headaches are headaches that have a defined cause, which can range from serious pathologies like tumours and haemorrhages to more benign conditions. Cervicogenic headache is a secondary headache which is well suited to chiropractic management.
As such, it is important that you seek the opinion of a qualified health professional such as a chiropractor or your general practitioner regarding what type of headache you are suffering.
Sports Injuries
Chiropractors are trained to diagnose and manage joint and muscle injuries of the whole body, not just the spine. Management of sports injuries requires an understanding of the sport, the cause of the injury, and the steps necessary to safely return to play.
Sports injuries can typically be categorised as traumatic injuries or overload injuries. Identifying both the source of pain, and the causative factors are important in long-term resolution of the problem.
At Kingsway Family Chiropractic we have a particular interest and specialised training in both the prevention and treatment of sports injuries.
Dizziness and Balance Disorders
The human body's balance system relies on three inputs - the eyes, the inner ear, and the motion sensing nerves of the joints and muscles of the body.
A lack of congruence between these systems can result in dizziness, or a loss of balance.
Effective treatment of dizziness and balance disorders is dependent on determining the cause of the mismatch between the three systems. Treatment of these conditions is dependent on the system or systems involved. Chiropractors are well placed to improve the input from the joints and muscles of the body, and will refer you to another practitioner if your dizziness or balance problems have another cause.
